The Qatar Rugby Federation's annual North vs South game was a thrilling showcase of local talent, featuring players from all clubs across Qatar. Eligibility was open to all players, ensuring every club was represented in the game.
The teams were uniquely divided by players from countries north and south of the equator. The North team, led by Player Coach Martin De Torres from Wales, who is also the DRFC men's Team captain, faced off against the South team, guided by the coaching duo of Joe Falesiu, a New Zealand/Australian with Tongan heritage, and Michael Brink from South Africa, who also played as the team's first five.
The match started with the South taking an early lead, thanks to a penalty from Michael Brink. However, the North quickly responded with a converted try. By halftime, the North was ahead with a score of 14-10.
The second half saw a strong performance by the South, who ultimately secured a victory with a final score of 22-14.
Guillermo Villegas Bardo was named Player of the Match for his outstanding performance, showing us why he is Qatar Rugby’s starting Flanker. Michael Brink emerged as the top points scorer with 12 points, signifying his role in the South’s win. The North’s scrum-half, Osian Morgan, was awarded Back of the Match, while Dirk Botha, who made his Qatar Rugby debut earlier this season, earned Forward of the Match honors.
